Russell Jones & Walker are one of the largest employment law firms in the country and provide similar cover to the Police Federation and the Royal College of Nursing among others. They provide an increased level of service to that enjoyed by our members over the last few years. This now means that all membership categories including Retired Life Members of APAP now receive the same legal benefits in terms of legal advice and personal injury.Services provided will include cover to members of APAP for specialist representation, solicitor's and barrister's fees, court costs and expert witnesses expenses for:- - Claims for personal injury or death arising during the course of employment or otherwise and including claims arising from a motor accident by a member or a member of their family.
- Defense of criminal prosecutions arising during the course of employment.
- Defense of motoring prosecutions whether arising during the course of employment or otherwise.
- Claims arising out of the members contract of employment.
- Claims arising from the purchase, hire or lease of goods or services for private use including claims relating to motor vehicles.
- Defense of claims arising from the sale of goods on a private basis.
- Claims arising from an infringement of the members rights in respect of their home.
- Representation at a police station required as a result of the member's occupation.
- Representation at a medical tribunal in relation to social security payments arising as a result of an injury at work.
- Representation at a Health Professional Council Hearing
There are two distinct helpline numbers in operation, one for employment and general legal issues, and the other for Personal Injury Claims. Please contact Head Office for further details The Justice & Advocacy Group APAP in addition to those services provided by Amicus Legal Ltd has its own in-house specialist legal department for its members called The Justice & Advocacy Group (JAG) who deal with a wide range of the more serious employment and personal problems. The National Governing Council shall have the power to grant legal assistance to all members who qualify under 23.1 below arising out of, or in the course of their employment or in proceeding to and from their place of employment, or whilst on Association business. 23.1 The following qualifications shall apply: - 23.1.1 Continuous membership for at least 13 weeks prior to the member knowing that they are in need of assistance.
23.1.2 No arrears of contributions 23.1.3 In other exceptional circumstances, the NGC will have absolute discretion to grant assistance.
23.2 The following conditions shall apply:- 23.2.1 The member seeking legal assistance must make application through the Associations Head Office on the appropriate form(s) designed for that purpose. 23.2.2 The member must not assume that their legal assistance had been approved until they receive written confirmation from a principal officer of the Association. 23.2.3 The member must continue to pay their subscriptions whilst their case is proceeding unless special dispensation has been applied for and granted in writing. 23.2.4. Advice and/or assistance may be provided by a lay officer or consultant of the Association, or by a solicitor and counsel appointed through the Association, at the absolute discretion of the NGC. 23.2.5 The Association shall not be held accountable for any costs, charges or other payments in connection with legal action or advice either incurred or made on behalf of the Associations without consent from the NGC.
23.3 The Association reserves the right to withdraw legal assistance from a member whose case would, on advice from the Associations Legal advisor's, have little or no Chance of success, or would seem to be vexatious for frivolous. 23.3.1 The Association reserves the right to withdraw all benefits from a member who has transgressed the above Rules.
