Ambulance driver caught sending texts sacked
02/03/2009

The ambulance driver caught sending text messages as he carried a patient on a busy main road has been sacked.

Alan Webb, 27, was axed after the Mirror revealed that he spent three minutes playing with his mobile while driving with just one hand on the wheel.

But the agency worker, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, refused to apologise for his dangerous actions.

A friend said: "Alan thinks the whole thing is hilarious. He's not sorry about being caught out - he's a mug for putting lives at risk."

Ambulance care assistant Webb, of Thurrock, Essex, was caught texting while driving on the A12 last week.

A London Ambulance spokesman confirmed: "Following an internal investigation, a member of agency staff has been dismissed."
